Why Your Consultation Matters More Than You Think
The most important step in a senior photo shoot?
The consultation.
I know—it’s tempting to skip it. A lot of people think, “Can’t you just pick some locations?” or “I don’t really have any ideas.” Totally fair… but this step is where the magic actually starts.
The consultation is more than just planning—it’s an icebreaker.
It gives you the chance to meet me in person, relax a bit, and start feeling comfortable in front of the camera before we even take a single photo. And for me, it’s the opportunity to get to know you—your personality, your style, and what makes you feel confident. That’s what shapes your entire shoot.
Before coming in, I always recommend creating a quick Pinterest board with inspiration. You don’t need a full vision—just a few photos you’re drawn to. That alone tells me so much and helps guide everything from location to posing to overall vibe

Featured Senior: Cora | Horicon High School
Cora came into her consultation with a clear vision—she wanted water and flowers.
We chose Kohler-Andrae State Park for her water location, which was the perfect fit. But one of my favorite moments from the shoot actually came from something unexpected.
As we were walking near one of the educational buildings, my assistant Jodi and I noticed a wall with shake shingles. My first instinct? Keep moving.
But Jodi said, “Let’s try it.”
And I’m so glad we did.
The final image turned out clean, modern, and completely different from the rest of the session—easily one of my favorites from the day.

While we were at Kohler-Andrae, we also took full advantage of the beautiful beaches and boardwalks—such a perfect mix of textures and scenery for a senior session.
Pro tip: Stay on the trails.
A lot of people don’t realize that the dunes are a protected habitat. Sticking to the designated paths helps preserve the natural beauty of the area so we can continue to enjoy locations like this for years to come 🌿

🌸 I promised you flowers! 🌸
Wild phlox is one of my absolute favorite flowers to photograph for senior sessions. That bold purple color? STUNNING 😍
But here’s the thing… the window is short. These beauties typically bloom during the month of June.
So if you’re dreaming of flowers in your senior photos—now is the time to book!
Let’s make it happen ✨
